Getting Started - Business Plan Template for a Hairdressing Salon

It’s the old saying ‘Fail to plan… or plan to fail’. A business plan should be one of the first task in the initial design of a new salon. It ensures that you have a clear vision, set goals and a defined ethos for the business. It also allowed you to put aside any misconceptions and establish a realistic, balanced and clear purpose and direction. A business plan can play a vital role in helping to avoid mistakes or recognize hidden opportunities.

This Business Plan Template provides a case study for you to read and edit (editable in Microdot Word) to meet your specific requirements. Covering all aspects of your business development from marketing and salon design to staff training and finance, plus more.

As a bonus, included is a detailed list if all the items you will need to opening a new hairdressing salon. From brushes and clips to Point of Sale systems and operation manuals.

Grow a loyal client base to increase your profits.

Why are loyal clients so important?
Loyal customers:

  • Visit your salon over and over again and purchase products repeatedly
  • Increase the volume of their purchases over time
  • Increase their number of services per visit  i.e. visit 1 – cut and blowdry, visit 2 – cut, blowdry and colour.
  • Refer your salon to friends, family and associates
  • Become immune to the lure of the competition
  • Give your salon the benefit of the doubt when something goes wrong

Investing in client loyalty and retention make sound business sense and produces measurable results. Here are just some of the reasons why:

  • It costs 7-10 times more to recruit a new customer than to keep an
    existing one.
  • A gain in customer loyalty of only 5% can lift lifetime profits per customer by as much as 95%

Purchase a Client Loyalty Pack - A step-by-step guide to implementing 3 unique systems into your salon.

10 tips for improving client loyalty in your salon....

Below are some ideas that can be implemented into your salon, to start growing client loyalty straight away;

  1. Follow up after the first visit with a thank you message, offer or gift.
  2. Create a VIP event and invite your loyal customers into the salon to be pampered.
  3. Ask your existing clients to recommend a friend, reward both your client and their friend with a small gift or offer, once the referral client has established an appointment.
  4. Create a points system in your salon where customers can gain reward dollars against their salon spend. These points can then be redeemed for set items.
  5. Create a new client loyalty card, offering unique rewards on each visit to the salon for a set number of visits.
  6. Reward clients unexpectedly, this could be as simple as offering to provide a complementary treatment at the basin. This is a nice way of saying 'thank you'!
  7. Communicate with your clients outside of their scheduled appointments. This will keep your business top of mind and ensure they return sooner rather then later.
  8. Find out what clients want. Create a customer feedback form to find out more information about what your clients really want. Collate the data and see where you may be able to implement new services or products, or improve current systems in your salon.
  9. Win back any clients that have not been back to the salon in the past 3-6months. It's not too late to regain their loyalty.
  10. Be visible as the salon owner and refer your loyal clients to another staff member if their regular hairdressers is no longer available.
